Presented by an expert judicial speaker team, this one-stop-shop conference has been specially designed for practitioners who wish to get a better understanding of the work undertaken by the Court of Protection or those who wish to develop a practice in this area.

The Court of Protection was established by the Mental Capacity Act 2005 on 1 October 2007.  The Act governs decision-making in relation to vulnerable adults, within the auspices of the Court of Protection which has comprehensive jurisdiction over the health, welfare and financial affairs of individuals who lack capacity.

The court has the same powers, rights, privileges and authority in relation to mental capacity matters as the High Court.  It has the power to make declarations about whether someone has the capacity to make a particular decision and whether an act done, or proposed to be done, in relation to a person who lacks capacity, is lawful.

In addition to covering the statutory framework, commencement of proceedings, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and providing introductory guidance to the increasing body of Court of Protection decisions, the speakers will analyse recent case-law and new procedural developments. All participants will receive a comprehensive set of written materials featuring unique and up-to-date content, including case studies written especially for this conference.

This conference is suitable for all lawyers who want to learn about the court and its work, including those who are thinking of broadening or changing their practice area.  By the end of the day you will have a better understanding of practice and procedure in the Court of Protection and of your own professional and legal duties in this evolving area.

What is included?

  • A days introductory level CPD training from two specialist COP judges
  • Comprehensive and unique conference documentation to refer to in the office
  • The opportunity to test your understanding of COP practice and procedure in an interactive judicially led discussion session
  • The chance to buy selected Jordans and Family Law products at 20% discount
