The Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 established two tribunals known as the First Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal. The Upper Tribunal was given jurisdiction over matters assigned to it by directions of the Lord Chief Justice in accordance with Part 1 of Schedule 2 of the Constitutional Reform Act 2005.
