The rule of law does not allow legal aid to be refused to allow the government to avoid inconvenient legal judgments

The peace activist and civil liberties campaigner Maya Evans successfully challenged changes made to the Legal Aid Funding Code which were introduced in April 2010. These changes were triggered by a letter sent in November 2008 by the Secretary of State for Defence, Bob Ainsworth MP, to the Ministry of Justice which said that:
