Local Authorities – Referendum – Decisions
Stage: First Reading in the House of Commons 26/07/2010
When a local authority receives a petition relating to a decision that it has made, the local authority must hold a referendum on the proposal or decision. If the result of the referendum is to approve the decision, the local authority must implement that proposal or decision. If the result does not approve the decision, subject to limited exceptions, the local authority must not implement that proposal or decision.
