Knowhow - guidance - precedents

Regional mediation network pilot scheme launched by BIS

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) will fund mediation training for employees from a group of 24 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cambridge and Manchester later this year. The trained mediators will then provide mediation to other organisations in their respective network. The aim is to resolve workplace disputes before they reach an Employment Tribunal.

This follows on from the government response to its Resolving Workplace Disputes consultation, which reported its intention to pilot two regional mediation networks. The consultation suggested that SMEs are often not aware of the potential benefits of mediation. The pilot will run for a year and may be introduced into other areas if successful.
