The HSE has published provisional figures for the number of work-related fatalities that occurred between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2012. A total of 173 workers died during that period (118 employees and 55 self-employed workers), which is a decrease of two compared to the 2010/11 figure of 175 deaths, and equates to a rate of 0.6 fatalities per 1,000,000 workers (which is the same as the 2010/11 rate). In comparison to recent years, 173 deaths is 12% lower than the average for the past five years (196), for which the fatal injury rate stands at 0.7 fatalities per 100,000 workers...
