Single Inspectorate

The Office for Standards in Education, Childrens Services and Skills - the new Ofsted - is now in operation. It is responsible for regulating and inspecting a wider range of public services from childcare and childrens social care to education in schools and colleges and adult and work-based learning. Ofsted has taken on responsibilities from four existing inspectorates: the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI); the work relating to children of the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI); the work relating to the children and family courts of HM Inspectorate of Court Administration (HMICA); and the work of the former Ofsted.
