Safeguarding Paper

25 JUN 2007

The Department for Education and Skills announced on 22 June a 12 week consultation to be carried out as part of its strategy towards the better safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. The Government is consulting on the processes for barring people who should not work with those groups. The system was legislated for in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and will be introduced from autumn 2008. An Independent Safeguarding Authority, previously known as the Independent Barring Board, will be the new non-departmental public body overseeing the procedures. The consultation can be found at http://www.dfes.gov.uk/consultations/conDetails.cfm?consultationId=1476
