CARE PROCEEDINGS:Re S (Parenting Assessment)

(Court of Appeal, Thorpe, Rafferty LJJ, Norris J, 17 May 2012)

The mother appealed against a decision ruling her out as a future carer of her two children. Previous parenting assessments had been positive but the most recent raised a number of concerns including domestic violence, cannabis use and the mother's supervision of the children. The mother appealed on the basis that the judge had failed to give sufficient weight to the previous assessments.

Appeal dismissed. The judge had taken the previous reports into account but they did not provide the full picture. He had comprehensively explained his reasoning and the decision could not be challenged.
