Re G: A Missed Opportunity

12 JAN 2007

Elizabeth Woodcraft, Barrister, Tooks Chambers. The House of Lords' decision in Re G (Children) [2006] UKHL 43, [2006] 2 FLR 629 was interesting and useful, as alluded to in the article by L Whitesmith and D Coombes, Natural Born Children: the House of Lords and the Blood Tie" [2006] Fam Law 953. The decision was not, however, useful for non-biological lesbian parents, infertile fathers whose children were born thanks to the donation of sperm by a stranger to a fertility clinic, couples using a surrogate mother or adoptive parents. The author says for them this was a missed opportunity. See January [2007] Fam Law for the full article.
