ADOPTION: Re A (Adoption: Obligation to Contact Father)

(Family Division; Singer J; 26 January 2010)

The child was given up for adoption at birth. The hospital inadvertently informed the local authority of unmarried father's details. The issue was whether the local authority was under an obligation to contact the father without parental responsibility and who was unaware of child's existence and how this overlaps with the right to respect for family life. The judge considered Adoption Guidance and Adoption Agency Regulations 2005, reg 14.
