Practice Direction: Requests to inspect files following Pronouncements of Decrees Nisi

This Practice Direction has been issued to ensure that personal information contained in divorce files at the Principal Registry of the Family Division is only made available to people who are entitled to see it.

Rule 2.36(4) of the Family Proceedings Rules 1991 (as amended) states that any person may, within 14 days of the pronouncement of a decree nisi, inspect the certificate and the evidence filed under rule 2.24 (3). This Practice Direction sets out which documents they are entitled to see.
