Niqab in High School

R (on the application of X) v Y High School [2007] EWHC 298 (Admin) was heard in the Administrative Court on 21 February 2007 by Mr Justice Silber. The issue was whether Y High School was entitled to refuse to allow a Muslim girl (X) to wear at their school the niqab veil. The primary claim was that the school had infringed the Art 9 rights of the claimant - the right to manifest a religious belief. Silber J concluded that those rights were not infringed. For the full case summary see April [2007] Fam Law.
