New guidance on undertaking age assessments

The Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) has issued guidance to assist social workers in undertaking age assessments

The age assessment of unaccompanied children seeking asylum is a challenging process. The new guidance is designed to provide user-friendly practice advice to social workers and their managers in England. It has been produced by specialist social workers and practitioners from local authorities and non-governmental refugee and legal sectors.

Members of ADCS hold leadership roles in children’s services departments in local authorities in England. They specialise in developing, commissioning and leading the delivery of services to children, young people and their families, including education, health, youth, early years and social care services. Working in partnership with other agencies, members work to achieve tailored and joined-up services for children, whatever their identified needs.
