Human Rights Awareness Conferences

14 SEP 2006

The Government is facilitating two conferences in October 2006 in Manchester and London to raise awareness of the obligations that all public authorities have under the Human Rights Act 1998. The conferences aim to demonstrate that adopting a human rights approach leads to:

  • improved performance, delivering a better quality of service tailored to individual need;
  • better risk management including financial and reputational risk;
  • improved relations with a wide range of stakeholders including staff, service users, contractors and the media;
  • better decision-making processes;
  • opportunities for the development of best practice.

The conferences are free of charge and are aimed at senior staff from central and local government, criminal justice system agencies, social services departments, healthcare trusts, health authorities, primary care trusts and other service providers. For further information see
