Aimed at front line professionals in the education and health and social care fields, as well as the children and young people concerned, the guidance looks to provide information on the identification, assessment and treatment of attachment issues and complications undergone by young people up to the age of 18 who are or have been:
adopted from care;
in special guardianship placements;
looked after by local authorities in foster homes and kinship foster care;
in residential units and other social care accommodation; or
on the edge of being placed into care.
The guidelines also aims to tackle the delicate subject of the emotional and psychological needs – including those resulting from maltreatment – of children, particularly if these issues are connected with or are causal to attachment difficulties in young people in care.
