DfE publishes guide for health professionals working with children and young people with SEND
The Department for Education (DfE) and Department of Health have published a guide for health professionals on the support system for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The guide is aimed at:
  • clinical commissioning groups;
  • health professionals; and
  • local authorities.
It explains the duties and responsibilities of health professionals who deal with children and young people with SEND and their families.

This guide is designed to help clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), local authorities and health professionals understand their statutory duties in relation to the SEND reforms in the Children and Families Act 2014.
The main duties to which CCGs, local authorities and health professionals must have regard are highlighted and links are given to the relevant sections of the Code of Practice (see below). It is important for relevant health professionals to familiarise themselves with the full version of the statutory guidance in addition to reading this guide.

Click here to read the full guide.

The new guide should be read alongside the ‘Special education needs and disability code of practice: 0 to 25’.
