Cohabitation in Parliament

31 JAN 2006

Mary Creagh, Labour MP for Wakefield, tabled at the end of January 2006 an early day motion (EDM) which states that current law relating to cohabiting couples is shambolic" and offers "little or no legal protection for cohabitants on relationship breakdown". The motion, EDM 1338, has the support of Resolution, and 58 other MPs from all political parties. Ms Creagh welcomed civil partnership for same sex partners, but wanted to ensure legal protection for unmarried couples who lived together. See March [2006] Fam Law 172 for the news article.
