Civil Justice Council annual report puts LiPs in spotlight – but LASPO still lurks

Civil Justice Council annual report puts LiPs in spotlight – but LASPO still lurks
The Civil Justice Council’s 2014-15 annual report was published last week (13 November 2015) and is quick to highlight the Council’s work regarding areas such as access for litigants in person during the past 12 months and the aftermath of the 2013 implementation of LASPO.

The report’s overview also mentions work undertaken by the Civil Justice Council (CJC) concerning damages-based agreements, following its help drafting amendments for the Damages-Based Agreements Regulations 2014, as well as investigating further the efficacy of online dispute resolution in resolving civil disputes outside of court, and follow-up measures taken as a result of the impact of the Jackson reforms discussed by the CJC in March 2014.

The CJC’s efforts regarding litigants in person have been tangible in the past year, with groundbreaking regional outreach events held at Bristol and Cardiff’s Civil Justice Centres in October 2015 being praised for their practicality and clarity by those in attendance - members of the public, press, support services and professionals alike. The report’s overview refers to the CJC’s attitude to litigants in person as ‘continuing unabated’, which suggests yet further developments still in this area of family law from the CJC’s point of view – something that will surely be welcomed by members of the field in the coming new year.

The full version of the CJC’s annual report 2014-15 is available to view and download here.
