Family mediator, trainer and a Vice President of the FMA
Lisa Parkinson, Mediator and Trainer. The author comments that experience of meeting with separating parents in mediation suggests that many parents manage to give their children explanations and reassurance about their separation and are careful not to involve them in matters that do not concern them. However, there are also parents who have not yet explained anything to the children, because they do not know what to say, or who accuse each other of trying to turn the children against the other parent. The author looks at including children in the mediation process, children's experience of child-inclusive mediation and the implications of child-inclusive mediation. Training in child-inclusive mediation, giving feedback to parents and the boundaries of the family mediator's role are also considered in the article. See June Fam Law for the full article.
