CARE PROCEEDINGS: Re SC (Placement Order: Order Made in Respect of Part of Sibling Group)

(Court of Appeal, Thorpe, Rimer LJJ, Baron J, 22 November 2012)

The local authority applied for final care orders in respect of a family of seven children and placement orders in respect of the youngest two, aged 7 and 3. The mother had reactive emotional attachment difficulties and a clinical psychologist reported that even if she engaged with therapy it would be at least 18 months before the mother could care for the children or even have unsupervised contact. The orders were granted.

The mother appealed claiming that the care plan was unrealistic and that the judge had failed to explain how the youngest children would adapt to adoption. The appeal was dismissed.
