CONTEMPT: Doncaster MBC v Watson and Haigh

(Family Division; Sir Nicholas Wall P; 22 August 2011)

Elizabeth Watson was a private investigator who aided and abetted Victoria Haigh in the above case in disseminating false allegations of sexual abuse against the child by the father. An application made to commit Elizabeth Watson to prison for breaching a reporting restriction order. Proper service of court orders, but she failed to appear on several occasions. There was no evidence of contrition or of remorse of actions on any occasion. Sentenced for 9 months imprisonment with caveat that the judge would entertain any application to purge her contempt if she could demonstrate genuine contrition and take active steps to remove any contemptuous material which she had placed in the public domain.
