Labour leadership contender Jeremy Corbyn, has released a document entitled 'Working with Women'. The document outlines his proposals for achieving gender equality, which include a number of related general employment law objectives.

Among the proposals are:

  • Abolishing employment tribunal fees to allow employees to pursue equality and challenge discrimination in the workplace
  • Introducing a mandatory requirement for all companies to publish equal pay audits
  • Removing the length of service threshold for unfair dismissal rights, meaning workers are able to bring claims from the day their employment commences
  • Extending the 3-month limitation period for sex and maternity discrimination claims
  • Strengthening trade union recognition and bargaining to aid the pursuit of equal pay and opportunity for women
The vote for the next Labour leader will begin on 14 August 2015 and close on 10 September 2015, with the results being announced on 12 September 2015. As leader of the opposition, the successful candidate will have an effect on the direction of employment law policy and the strength and nature of its debate in parliament.
