Insurers' Information Exchange

The OFT has accepted formal commitments from seven insurance providers and two IT software and service providers to limit the data they exchange via specialist market analysis tools. A further insurer is bound by the terms of its immunity agreement. An OFT investigation had uncovered concerns about price coordination as a result of information exchanged via a tool called Whatif? Private Motor. In particular, insurers had access to the risk data and pricing strategies of their competitors via the tool.

The OFT published its analysis of the risks in full in order to provide guidance on information exchange. Having accepted the commitments, the investigation has now been closed.
