Aggregates, cement and ready-mix concrete markets

On 18 January 2012, the OFT referred the aggregates, cement and ready-mix concrete markets in Great Britain to the Competition Commission, having announced in August 2011 its provisional decision to refer such markets.
Following a public consultation on that provisional decision, the OFT maintains the view that structural features of these markets, such as high barriers to entry in aggregates and cement, high concentration, the effects of vertical integration, multiple contracts and information exchanges across aggregates, ready-mix concrete and cement, may be distorting competition.
