David Hodson writes a weekly column for Newswatch. He is a partner and co-founder of The International Family Law Group, Covent Garden, London, www.iflg.uk.com. He acts in complex family law cases, often with an international element.
He is a English accredited solicitor, mediator, family arbitrator, Deputy District Judge at the Principal Registry of the Family Division, High Court, London and an Australian (NSW) solicitor and barrister and mediator. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and author of A Practical Guide to International Family Law (Jordans Publishing 2008).
David was partner in charge of the family law departments of City of London law firms Theodore Goddard and Frere Cholmondeley Bischoff, later Eversheds. In 1995 he was joint founder of probably the world's first metropolitan practice to combine family lawyers, mediators and counsellors and with an emphasis on a conciliatory and holistic approach. From 2003 to 2005 he worked in Sydney for a leading Australian family law firm and he retains his entitlement to practice in Australia.
He has sat on many professional committees in respect of family law reform and good practice. He is chair of the Family Law Review Group of the Centre for Social Justice, a groundbreaking set of major reforms of all aspects of family law which have been well received and parts of already been endorsed by the political parties and implemented.
