Please read the following guidelines carefully. They set out what we consider to be acceptable and unacceptable when posting comments on our website. For full details please
refer to the Terms and Conditions. We may update these guidelines from time to time.
Use your real and full name when creating a profile and posting comments. Never impersonate another person. If you have a personal connection to a story or topic, you
should disclose your connection or, where appropriate, not comment at all.
When posting comments please keep within the following guidelines:
·Express your opinions, but support them with evidence and facts. Attribute quotes and paraphrases to their proper sources.
·Keep on topic. This is a website about the law for lawyers and other professionals with an interest in legal isssues. Please keep within the bounds of a topic as initiated.
·Use only English.
·Do not use swear words or other language likely to offend.
·Avoid being inflammatory or excessive in your views, and do not provoke, attack or offend others. Make your comment clear to ensure that it is not misunderstood.
·Do not advertise services for profit or gain.
·Respect people’s privacy - do not include confidential or private information such as phone numbers, email addresses, etc.
·Do not include your own contact details such as phone numbers, email addresses, etc.
·You may only include links to another website if the content on that other site abides with these Guidelines and our Terms and Conditions.
· Only upload and post images to support or illustrate your comment. Images should comply with these Guidelines and our Terms and Conditions.
You must not make or encourage comments which are:
·defamatory, false or misleading;
·insulting, threatening or abusive;
·obscene or of a sexual nature;
·offensive, racist, sexist, homophobic or discriminatory against any religions or other groups;
·a breach of copyright law; or
·may be prejudicial to pending or ongoing court proceedings of which you are aware.
Report inappropriate comments
If you consider that a comment does not comply with these Guidelines or our Terms, please use the Flag facility located next to the comment in issue. This facility should only be used for serious complaints, not simply because you disagree with something said.
Removing inappropriate content
Reader comments that violate the letter or spirit of these Guidelines or our Terms may be removed. If we do remove something, we will generally remove whole posts, or where necessary, whole threads (not parts). This means that even if only one sentence is objectionable, the whole comment will usually be removed (or not published). Sometimes, a comment may be removed because it is connected to another comment which is being removed.
If you are aware that content has been removed, you must not deliberately resubmit the same content.
