Andrew Francis

Andrew Francis Barrister
Serle Court

Andrew’s practice is a chancery one, with an emphasis on real property and contested estates and probate. He has developed and is recognised as a leading authority on the law of restrictive covenants affecting freehold land, and on the law of rights of light. He has been instructed in the major cases in rights of light in the last decade. He is the author, or co-author of text books on covenants (Restrictive Covenants and Freehold Land: A Practitioner's Guide), rights of light (Rights of Light: The Modern Law) and rights of way (Private Rights of Way). The breadth of his practice is demonstrated by his experience in contentious probate claims and in claims for financial provision out of deceaseds’ estates under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. In each field he has written a textbook and is editor of Inheritance Act Claims: Law Practice and Procedure. This side of Andrew’s practice allows him to advise in more “human interest” cases and preserves a balance in the general chancery law which both the real property and contested estate work involves.
